This work looks at how to combine photography and different drawing techniques coherently with an exhibition as a final report. How can the different methods work together?
With the work the vision was to show that it is possible to make these two aesthetic styles work together. The purpose of the work was to show my capability to keep the pictures and drawings versatile but still aesthetically coherent.
Two drawing techniques and two different aspects within photography were used to show what can be done between the two. With those styles two series were created with four pictures in each. One in black and white, with the theme of 'London', and one in colour with the theme 'Family'. This means that versatility can be shown between these two styles.
In one of the series the inspiration was different self portraits from women in the art world, and from that my own interpretation of a self portrait was created. Self portraits is an established form of art, and can be presented in many different ways in every aspect of the art world. To research this I read books surrounding the different drawing techniques.
In this the experiment with colour and colour pencils were important, since I have not worked that much with it in my past drawing experiences. The remaining pictures in the series are photographs of the rest of my family, that I have taken and edited myself.
It was important to make both of the drawings look as photo realistic as possible, so the decision was made that the drawings were to be based on two photographs that were photographed by me.
For the other drawing, pencils in different grades were used, and it was focusing on the architecture of the city of London. In the past the technique of pencils has been a comfort zone for me. Compared to the technique of drawing houses and shapes in form of architecture, which is new in my personal world of art.
When it came to inspiration and literature studies, it was about examine and focusing at different techniques, and how to think about the drawing as shapes and forms instead of just a house. That evolved the way of thinking about the pencil technique. The inspiration was geometric shapes, which in its foundation is very simple but can easily change texture with something as easy as shading which is a prominent element in the second drawing.
The obstacle to work with new techniques was resolved with study from literature and practice. The result was satisfying with the original vision.
The conclusion is that it is possible to combine these two styles and in the end get a result that is resembling to the original vision.
